Outside The Wire (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Netflix doesn’t have the best track record with its action originals – 6 Underground, The Old Guard, Triple Frontier and, for me at least, Extraction, were all let downs.  Great cast, often solid (if unspectacular) action but lacking in story and direction. Sadly Outside The Wire continues that trend.  At its heart there’s a decent idea here about the distance off modern war fare and what is acceptable collateral damage but the suspension of disbelief needed for that this film to deliver those answers is considerable. Anthony Mackie shows some solid action chops (which modes well for his continued and expanded role in the Marvel MCU) but Damson Idris is miscast and director Mikael Håfström continues to be little more than a solid journeyman director for hire. So a time passer for sure but there’s lots better to watch.

Best Bit: The vault assault
