Soul (2020) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Creeping in at the last film I watched in 2020, Disney Pixar’s Soul is a thought provoking, artistic and often mind bending master class in animated films.  But don’t expect some kid friendly light touch Illumination style film… no because, whilst there a lot here for kids, Soul definitely knows it’s playing to the grown ups with it’s meditation on the meaning of life as seen through the eye of a middle aged jazz teacher.   Because for every cute bit of animation or sight gag there’s equally a well pitched moment of reflection about why we are here and what our purpose is.  It’s beautiful stuff and sits with you long after the credits roll.  One of 2020’s best.

Best Bit: For all the deep and meanly bits the hostel slap stick is great!
