Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Just released onto Netflix in the UK, The Platform is a Spanish sci-fi thriller that recalls films like Cube in it’s super simple premise but excellent execution. It tells the story of a vertical prison with one cell per level, holding two people per cell who are fed once a day on a platform with reducing returns. Super simple. The big difference between this and Cube is that The Platform is super slick too boot with superb effects and cinematography. Does it work? Well… 56 million household watched this on Netflix in first four weeks of release, making it one of the platform most successful releases ever. It’s also really good as well – tense, inventive and darkly comic at times. In a year devoid of big releases it’s films like this that still make subscribing to these services more than worthwhile!
Best Bit: The decent
