Rebecca (2020) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Rebecca is the biggest film yet from British director Ben Wheatley and thats both a blessing and a curse.  It’s a brave man who decided to take on an Alfred Hitchcock film and, whilst this is pitched as an adaptation of the book rather than a remake of the film, it will still invite comparisons to the classic 1940’s original.  So how does it hold up? Well… as you’d image the original remains the best but the 2020 version has its moments – its a gorgeous film with an excellent cast.  But familiarity plays a big part and the story feels very much of its day.  It’s also a bit bland at times and you cant hep but feel that it’s a bit padded at over 2 hours long. Overall Wheatley does a good enough job here but he seems far more confident with smaller projects.

Best Bit: It looks gorgeous!
