Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Three episodes in and I’ve already given up on the latest Walking Dead expansion. The challenge is that, away from the ‘mothership’ show (which itself has never managed to be consistent), The Walking Dead lacks any sense of originality. We’ve seen it all before and as these characters (new to the outside Zombie world) make mistakes we’ve seen time and time again you end up just wanting them to get eaten. Also I just don’t need a YA Zombie show, especially one that has a premise as dumb as this one has and that seems to be toning down the gore. So ultimately three episodes in and The Walking Dead: Word Beyond just isn’t that compelling – poorly drawn characters, not that well acted and wrapped in a story that exists ONLY to set the world up for the incoming Rick Grimes movies that no one really wants.
Best Bit: Episode 1 – the twist.
