The Old Guard (2020) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Another day another mid-budget star led Netflix release.  So does The Old Guard finally crack the code of delivering a great (or even good)  Netflix badged Original? Well no. Okay that’s not STRICTLY true… it’s better than most but The Old Guard is still an odd beast that is heavy of ideas, light on story and, at times just a bit dull. Oh and it also features one of the most dour soundtracks in recent memory.  There’s a great film in this story of immortal warriors but this, sadly, isn’t it.  All this aside there are a few great action sequences and some gun-fu that, for once, actually works on screen.  So a mixed bag but not one I could recommend that strongly.

Best Bit: The fights are excellent

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream
