Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
How To Build A Girl is a charming, funny and smart comedy from director by Coky Giedroyc based on a screenplay by original book author Caitlin Moran. Much like in Booksmart this coming-of-age comedy film is elevated by the films cast – specifically here by lead (and also of Booksmart fame) Feldstein who is both vulnerable and charming in the role of the nice wanna be writer who finds that being bad is better business than being nice & honest. It’s not perfect – beyond the cast the story is pretty thin, the characters written in quite broad strokes and it’s darker edge almost undoes the films charm but, in the end, when everything works out well (no spoilers – it’s pretty obvious) you are left with a warm feeling inside!
Best Bit:Beanie Feldstein is great
