2020 Hindsight: Favourite Films of the 2010’s by Your Opinion Sucks

Emphasis on the word “favourite” there, as opposed to “best”; that implies something different entirely. Keep in mind that I’m really only writing up this list, rife with bias and instalments some readers may find… disagreeable, for blatant self indulgence and the entertainment of myself. Expect some weird choices!

2020 has been the most aggressively downbeat year of the 21st century so far (with the threat of the downfall of civilisation recycling itself almost every single month), and I’m in the mood for some positivity. I want to reminisce on the films of the last ten years, a full decade of blissful ignorance before life turned into a bad apocalyptic TV show, populated with deadly plagues, cartoonish governments, entire continents on fire and, in spite of all this, racism sticking around like a cancerous tumour that keeps growing back.

So here you are, my very biased and very personal picks from the 2010’s. Note: the order is alphabetical, with the word “the” uncounted, favouritism could not be organised, as trimming it all down to 30 – from the gargantuan list of films I wanted to include (with the same amount for the honourable mentions for Christ’s sake!); it seems I simply lack the brain power to do any more work. Does it really look like I know what I’m doing here?

The main list:

A Hidden Life

The American

Birdman

Blue Is The Warmest Colour

Blue Ruin

Django Unchained

Drive

Ex Machina

Florentina Hubaldo CTE

Foxcatcher

Inception

I, Olga Hepnarova

Last And First Men

Locke

Mad Max Fury Road: Black & Chrome Edition

Man Of Steel

Moonlight

Only God Forgives

Steve Jobs

Stranger By The Lake

The Tree Of Life

Under The Skin

Utoya: July 22

Voyage Of Time

Warrior

Whiplash

Zero Dark Thirty

7 Days

12 Years A Slave

127 Hours

And there you have it, hope it didn’t piss you off too badly. If you think there’s anything missing then perhaps you’ll find it in the honourable mentions; good luck.

Honourable mentions: A Ghost Story, A Most Wanted Man, An Elephant Sitting Still, Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition, Biutiful, Blade Runner 2049, Captain Phillips, Carol, The Dark Knight Rises, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Dredd, Enemy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Godzilla, Green Zone, Her, Ida, Inside Out,  John Wick, John Wick 2 John Wick 3,  Lincoln, Melancholia, Nymphomaniac, The Raid, The Raid 2: Berandal, Shame, Sicario, The Social Network, Son Of Saul, The Tribe, The VVitch, You Were Never Really Here

That was fun – The End!

Your Opinion Sucks

Your Opinion Sucks

What’s the difference between a film critic and a film maker? A film maker actually knows when to shut up, which certainly explains my big mouth.

Partial to the weird and the grotesque, James is a wannabe filmmaker and actor, who got lucky and allowed to review some pictures, the Donnie in Will and Phil’s bowling team, forever on a quest flex the truth... that your opinion sucks!
