Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Okay so Midway isn’t terrible. But it often really seems it’s best to be. Whether it be director Roland Emmerich’s desire to cut away from every action scene before you’ve started to enjoy it or Ed Skrein once again proving he has the acting range of a ottoman, Midway at times seems to be going out of its way to be rubbish. Yet. Yet I didn’t hate it. Yes the script is garbage, the acting at times barely local theatre quality, the film about as silly as Bay’s Pearl Harbour and the run time far too long for what is a very simple story but it’s heart seems to be in the right place and everyone is at least giving it their best “For Your Consideration” efforts. Midway is a time passer, a film to watch on a flight or a train. And for that it does an okay enough job.
