Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994) – A ’31 Films Of Halloween’ Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare is to Scream what Halloween is to the Elm Street movies.  Without the former, the later just wouldn’t have existed.  It’s a film that’s far ahead of its time, stepping back years of ‘lesser’ sequels to reboot and close off the Elm Street series in a way that would change horror forever.   It also holds up really well, considering the film is now 25 years old and horror has gone full circle once again.  Okay so some of the later FX look a bit ropey and I’m not a huge fan of the Freddy make up on display here but these are very small quibbles. This remains as important to the horror genre as Halloween before it.

Best Bit: The fact it’s still really bloody good.
