Each month we take a look at a TV show that DEMANDS to be Binge Watched.
Why? Much like The Shield before it, Sons Of Anarchy was buried in the UK on it’s initial UK TV run, screening on Channel 5 + Star or something. Created by Kurt Sutter, who previously worked on The Shield as a writer and latterly producer, the series starred Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman and was set in a fictional Californian town with a story focused on an the exploits of an outlaw motorcycle club. Nominally in the same universe as The Shield (certain Motorcycle clubs/gangs are referenced in both), it shared the uncompromising violence of Sutter’s earlier work as well as almost the entire Shield cast (the highlight being Walton Goggin’s Cletus Van Damme).
Less consistent than The Shield for sure, Sons Of Anarchy’s focus on family (be it blood or club) drove it’s narrative which took in ample death and murder along the way. IT wasn’t for the faint of heart but it was excellant entertainment, even in it’s weaker 3rd series.
An incredible support cast (Mark Boone Jnr, Katy Segal, Kim Coates), cinematic visuals and added Danny Trejo make this an essential watch.
