My Favourite… John Hurt Film

As death continues it’s relentless march through the gifted and talented of TV and film, My Favourite… celebrates those we have lost by taking a look at a slice of their best work. Well sometimes best, sometimes just the one I like the most.

This time out: My Favourite…. John Hurt (1940-2017) Film

ALIEN (1979)

After a space merchant vessel perceives an unknown transmission as distress call, their landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious lifeform. Continuing their journey back to Earth with the attacked crew having recovered and the critter deceased, they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun.

Ridley Scott’s ground breaking 1979 science fiction horror Alien still scares me to this day.   Hurt plays Kane,  an enthusiastic adventure, who first comes across the egg that plays host to the deadly face hugger parasite that would later dramatically burst out of his chest and give birth to an Alien that kills almost his whole crew.   Kane is the catalyst for the doom that follows and his actions set the tone for Weyland-Yutani’s relentless pursuit of this deadly weapon.
