Phil’s Top 5… Christmas Movies!

Each week Phil, from Phil’s Quick Capsule Review, takes a look at a different movie or TV related Top Five.  This time out: MY Favourite Christmas Movies!

(To qualify these have to be ABOUT Christmas not just linked in some remote way!)

Close but no cigar: Miracle on 34th Street, It’s A Wonderful Life, Home Alone 2 Lost In New York

5 – Home Alone
Home Alone isn’t actually the butt of the joke you may think it is.  Still all these years on it’s a damn fine film, with a genuinely good performance by McCulkin and surprising depth behind it’s more knock about moments. Go on watch it again… I dare you!

4 – Muppets Christmas Carol
The Muppets.  Does Dickens. With Michael Caine. If that’s not the very definition of a win/win I don’t know what is!

3 – Scrooged
Bill Murray. Does Dickens. With Bill Murray. Seriously WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR??????

2 – Love Actually
It’s our go to Christmas movie ever year (and has been for 10 + years now).  Yes it’s flawed. Yes it’s clichéd.  But that bit with Emma Thompson and the gift, the play & the kiss, the proposal, the kid in the airport… they still get me every time.  It’s everything a Christmas movie should be.

1 – The Nightmare Before Christmas
The most twisted Christmas movie for kids you’ll probably ever see, The Nightmare Before Christmas is just amazing.  The songs, stunning stop motion animation and a run time that kids love combined to make this an instant classic that still endures to this day.
