Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The Jungle Book is a good remake. It has one of the best moments of ANY film this year (hint: ‘I wanna Be Like You’). It has several laugh out loud sequences. It has Bill Murray. It also has several moments that scared the bejesus out of my six year old. BUT, and here’s the rub, it lacked heart. Don’t get me wrong it’s performed beautifully and the FX work rate as some of the best ever put on screen but the film just didn’t ‘Grab’ me, I didn’t care as much as I should. Maybe it’s the hardening of the original story or the side effect of taking a much loved property and remaking it. It’s not a bad film and it was enjoyable however. So overall: older kids will marvel, younger kids will hide and adults will probably just go ” Let’s watch the Disney original!”.
