Grosse Point Geek – The Conjuring 2
Paranormal investigators and church sanctioned Demonologists – Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) take on another terrifying case – this time in London where a single mother (Frances O’Connor) and her four children are being violently haunted by the malevolent spirit of the previous owner of their house. However they soon discover that they are up against no ordinary phantom but something far more evil than they have ever faced before.
Over the past few months i have been unfortunate enough to have watched some decidedly average films and a great deal that were down right stinkers – indeed so bad has 2016 been at the cinema i had actually given up hope that anything decent would be released at all. Mercifully i was wrong as i am happy to report that Conjuring 2 is nothing less than an absolutely cracking piece of entertainment.
To say the least this is one of those films that cinema was made for – its fun, well made, superbly acted, the script is spot on, the characters all have depth and breadth, its exciting, unpredictable, really scary in all the right places and best of all its directed with real flair and panache by man of the moment James Wan (Saw, Insidious, Fast 7).
Its also a great relief to watch a film that refuses to rely on an overabundance of jarring CGI but instead invests in good old fashioned scare tactics, clever camera work and a fast paced plot that keep the viewer gripped throughout.
Yes i’ll admit that it doesn’t really break new ground but it was so well put together and such good fun that it really didn’t matter – now why can’t all films be like that??
