Phil's Quick Capsule Review

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Dull third movie in the dull Mummy trilogy.

The Hollywood Exec Pitch:
Mummy = Cash. Studio likes cash.

What started as well as any film called “the Mummy” could, quickly descended into a CGI fuck fest that made the first two Mummy films look like Indiana Jones. Among the many wasted talents here are Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh and John Hannah who are all given stick thin characters to play with.

Just as ILM screwed the pooch royally for the The Mummy returns with the dire Rock Scorpion King monster, here director Rob Cohen manages to make it seem like your watching the least interactive computer game ever produced instead of an adventure film. Story. Fight. Fight. Story. Action. Action. Action. Quick bit of plot. Action. End credits.

To be honest the last Metal Gear felt more like a movie than this. So whilst the Mummy is certainly not the worst film of the year it definitely ranks only just outside them. I could say more but sometimes you just know a film just isn’t worth the effort.

In short: Lobotomy filmmaking at it’s most dull.

The Good: The effects are top notch and John Hannah is quite funny.

The Bad: Take your pick from most of the 90 min + running time!

The Ugly: Jet Li is wasted.

Best Bit: Straining to think but the final smack down is fun even if you get the been here done this before feel about it.

IMDB: 4/10

If you Liked this try: Raiders Of The Lost Ark (9/10); The Mummy (6/10); The Mummy Returns (5/10)
